YOUR LOCAL GUIDE ON MYKINES!

A local guide is required for visiting the island of Mykines in the summer to protect the biggest puffin colony in the Faroe Islands.

From May to August, I’m available as a private guide for individuals and groups on Mykines
and throughout the Faroe Islands. I’m also available to transfer small groups from Tórshavn to Mykines.

Please use the form below to request a 2-hour private puffin tour.
I’ll send you a quote that includes:
1. mandatory hiking fee,
2. ferry ticket from Vagar to Mykines,
3. transfer from Tórshavn (if needed).

INFO ABOUT MYKINES

How to go to Mykines?

There are two ways to go to Mykines:
- Ferry: departs daily from Sørvágur harbour between May and August (45 min each way);
- Helicopter: a few-minute scenic trip operated by Atlantic Airways from the airport in Vágar. It's not possible to book round-trip tickets on the same day.

Be aware that trips may be cancelled due to bad weather.

Hiking rules in Mykines

A mandatory hiking fee (400DKK if booked online in advance, 500DKK if paid on site) is required to go beyond the village and see the puffin nesting area with a local guide.
The iconic trail to the Mykineshólmur lighthouse is currently closed, and there are no plans to reopen it soon.
The guided hike takes about 2 hours and may not be suitable for people who are unfit or afraid of heights.

What's the best time to see the puffins?

Puffins come to land only for the breeding season. They arrive at the end of April and leave at the end of August.
Despite the large colony, on some days, there are only a few puffins to see on land, and only an expert guide knows where to look for them. Often, there are more puffins in the late afternoon and evening.

What's the best place in the Faroe Islands to see puffins?

Mykines is definitely the best place to see puffins at a short distance and in large numbers, with a beautiful view.

Where to eat in Mykines?

There's only a small café called "The Locals" where you can have breakfast and lunch. They usually have soups, sandwiches and cakes.

Where to sleep in Mykines?

There are a couple of nice accommodations and a campsite. Contact me to organise your trip and bookings.
